Anti-Ragging Policy

Institution: Koustuv Research Institute of Medical Sciences

Regulatory Mandate: UGC Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009

Effective Date: June 2026

KRIMS is deeply committed to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and respectful campus environment for all students. Ragging in any form — physical, verbal, psychological, or cyber — is a grave violation of human dignity and is strictly prohibited on campus, in hostels, during institutional events, and in any online forums associated with KRIMS. This policy has been formulated in compliance with the UGC Anti-Ragging Regulations, 2009, and directions of the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India.

1. Definition of Ragging

As per UGC guidelines, ragging includes any act that causes or is likely to cause physical, psychological, or emotional harm to a student; or demeans, humiliates, or endangers the student's dignity; or disrupts the normal academic or peaceful atmosphere of the institution.

Ragging encompasses, but is not limited to:

  • Physical Harm: Hitting, pushing, slapping, forced exercise, or any act of physical abuse.
  • Verbal Abuse: Insults, abusive language, slurs, threats, or intimidation.
  • Psychological Ragging: Forcing a student to perform degrading acts, emotional manipulation, or persistent harassment.
  • Cyber Ragging: Harassment or bullying via social media, messaging applications, or any digital platform.
  • Sexual Harassment: Any unwelcome physical or verbal conduct of a sexual nature.

2. Zero Tolerance Declaration

KRIMS College of Pharmacy follows a ZERO TOLERANCE policy against ragging. Any student found guilty of ragging will face strict disciplinary action as per the UGC Regulations and applicable law. The institution will not compromise on student safety under any circumstances.

3. Preventive Measures

The institution takes the following proactive steps to prevent ragging:

  • Anti-Ragging Committee constituted as per UGC norms, comprising faculty members, non-teaching staff, students, parents, and civil society representatives.
  • Anti-Ragging Squad conducting surprise checks in classrooms, hostels, common areas, and canteens.
  • Mandatory submission of Anti-Ragging Affidavits by students and parents/guardians at the time of admission.
  • Display of anti-ragging notices, helpline numbers, and awareness materials at prominent locations across campus.
  • Orientation programs for first-year students covering anti-ragging awareness and student rights.
  • Regular sensitization workshops for senior students and faculty.

4. Reporting a Complaint

Any student who is subjected to or witnesses ragging must immediately report it through one of the following channels:

  • Anti-Ragging Helpline (National): 1800-180-5522 (Toll-Free, 24×7)
  • UGC Anti-Ragging Portal: www.antiragging.in
  • Institution's Anti-Ragging Committee: antiragging@krims.ac.in
  • Direct Complaint: Principal's Office

Complaints will be treated with strict confidentiality. The identity of the complainant will not be disclosed without their consent.

5. Disciplinary Action

Upon receipt of a complaint, the Anti-Ragging Committee will investigate the matter within 7 days.

  • Expulsion from the institution
  • Suspension for a specified period
  • Withholding of academic results or degrees
  • Debarment from appearing in examinations
  • Fine and/or community service
  • Filing of FIR with local police authorities

6. Responsibilities

Every student, faculty member, and staff is responsible for maintaining a ragging-free environment. Failure to report a known incident of ragging may itself be treated as a violation of this policy.
